Brightwood

427438224_m.jpgIt was a chilly winter Saturday evening in Portland, Oregon on February 18th, 2006, but inside the venue Rock N’ Roll Pizza, the heat was turned up to the point where music lovers chowed down on pizza and guzzled back Bud Light in enjoyment to the debut of the northwest’s own rock heart-throbs, Brightwood. You see, February 18th was the night where Brightwood held their official CD release party in tribute of their EP “The Love Antidote”. Brightwood was the headliner at the event and quickly won the hearts of Portlanders with the energy in their performance and the sincerity in their lyrics.

The EP contains 6 tracks, all of which carry unique messages in their own right. At one moment, the listener is taken aback at the calm, soothing voice of lead singer Andrew Brittell, and within a blink of an eye, bassist Matt Fosket’s jolting screams of revelation take a track in a whole new direction while keeping true to the intention of the song. Benjamin Hawkins on keys and guitars provides that little extra something to balance out the melodies, and drummer Stephen Brittell’s burning precussion playing rounds out the firy and fierce foursome of these rockstars in the making.

Seldom does a band put out their initial album release to the musical-loving public and receive such ovation as the young men of Brightwood have. That’s probably because the first time you listen to “The Love Antidote”, you’ll be telling yourself that these energetic rockers must be veterans to the music industry. Veterans of the music business they’re not, but all signs show a successful, prosperous career if future Brightwood records resemble one iota of quality ’Antidote’ bodes.

The recent surge in promotion and popularity of Brightwood in Portland has spawned a desire within the band to tour up and down the west coast, and they’re not mincing actions in order to achieve limitless musical success. The band has been booking venues from Tacoma, Washington to San Diego, California with many cities in between for March and April of 2006, and there’s little doubt that Brightwood’s future in becomming a national treasure within the music community will bear gold. Purchase this EP, and let it’s sincerity take you on a musical journey you’ll never want to come back from!
