Spoon, et al, at the Edgefield...
Whirlwind trip from Eugene to Portland last week ended in bliss as Spoon brought the sun down over the Columbia at the Edgefield Friday night. Following a rollicking set by the Presidents and an opener by Nada Surf (which, alas, we missed), Spoon took the stage on fire and never looked back.

Highlights included personal favorites I Summon You and Don’t Make Me a Target, but they really got the crowd going with the sterling You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb and a closing cover of the Rolling Stones‘ Rocks Off. Addressing the crowd, Britt Daniel made mention of the fact that Portland is now his “hometown.” Hopefully that will result in more local shows, because these guys really connected with the crowd….

Amy Jay - NWN Internet Interviews

NW Noise is pleased to present a May 2008 internet interview with a newcomer to the PDX indie music scene, Amy Jay. NW Noise had interviewed Amy along with artist Libbie Schrader at The White Eagle Saloon in early May 2008, but a technical snafu deleted the audio for that incredible, now lost podcast interview. Oops on us! Read below for some internet interview goodness from Amy Jay!
Check out I Get By below from Amy Jay’s upcoming debut record due out this summer!

Billy Bragg Sells Out
Billy Bragg will be in Portland Saturday June 7th, but you won’t be able to go, unless you’ve already bought a ticket, because the event’s sold out. So it bums me to tell you how cool this will actually be.
Esteemed artist (for longer than most of you’ve been alive) and prolific activist, Billy Bragg will be at PNCA for a conversation about music, he’s participating in PNCA’s, PNCA+FIVE Idea Studios event.

Oh Darling - Band Brief
With both a raucous and adorable (is that possible? YES!) approach to playing music, the rock ‘n roll Romeo’s and Juliet’s of Portland, Oh Darling, have packed a harmonious year plus long punch to Portland’s indie rock scene in the form of Jasmine Ash, J. Marie, Davey and Jake (also with the local PDX band Jonah). This 2 (boys) + 2 (girls) = 4 (band members) formula has been equating to a rapidly growing fan base in the past year plus, and appearances with such local acts as Derby, Jonah, The Dimes, and even Oakland, Cali’s own The Heavenly States, to name a very few.

Initial PDX Pop Now 2008 Line-Up
PDX Pop Now!‘ers have published an initial list of acts to appear at this year’s festival.
The Builders & The Butchers | New Bloods | Panther | Starfucker | Atole
SubArachnoid Space | Reporter | Argumentix | Meth Teeth
Guidance Counselor | World’s Greatest Ghosts | Y La Bamba
Hutch & Kathy of The Thermals (tentative)
The Builders & The Butchers were just voted in the Willamette Week as the Best New Band for this year and Starfucker was a runner-up. In addition, you can expect a kick-ass CD compilation (as if they would mess up their impressive release-track-record) will feature 40-tracks and that will only set you back $8. That’s extremely accommodating to your already tight money problems. The CD compltication goes on sale June 17th at Portland-area retailers and online at CDBaby.
Check PDX Pop Now’s schedule online for the latest bands added to the bill.
